A.T. CROSS COMPANY ELECTS NEW DIRECTOR

Lincoln, RI – April 22, 2004 – A.T. Cross Company (AMEX: ATX), today announced that Edward J. Cooney has been elected to the Company’s Board of Directors effective immediately. Mr. Cooney replaces John E. Buckley who did not stand for re-election.

Mr. Cooney, 56, has many years of experience managing a broad range of business functions including finance, distribution, sales, and marketing. Currently, he serves as Vice President and Treasurer of Nortek, Inc., an international designer, manufacturer and marketer of building products. Prior to joining Nortek, Inc., Mr. Cooney was Chief Financial Officer at Speidel, Inc., a worldwide distributor of watchbands and watchband attachments. Earlier in his career, he held the positions of Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and CFO at Amtrol Inc., a producer and marketer of water storage, treatment, heating, expansion, flow control and related products.
