A.T. Cross Company Introduces Innovative Sunglass Line
~Costa Del Mar Combines Chic with Strength to Create
Three New Liquidmetal™ Designs ~
Lincoln, RI, - August 16, 2004 - They’re stylish. They’re high-tech. They’re made of a metal so flexible it’s like liquid. They’re the new rimless designs from Costa Del Mar Sunglasses, a wholly owned subsidiary of A.T. Cross Company (AMEX: ATX). These 3 new styles take an innovative, new metal – LiquidMetal™ – combined with chic designs and an exclusive three-stage comfort system to create sunglasses that are as stylish as they are tough. Ultra-lightweight, hyper-flexible and extremely durable, these designs come with Costa’s technologically advanced lenses to provide great eye protection and visual performance.
“LiquidMetal is a remarkable material that provides twice the flexibility and durability than titanium and three times the flexibility and durability than stainless steel. ” said Chas MacDonald, President of Costa Del Mar. “You can barely tell that you are wearing these sunglasses because they are so light, but don’t mistake their lightweight quality as being delicate – they are extremely hard-wearing and resilient,” he added. All of the three new designs feature durable, hyper-flexible temples constructed of the high-tech LiquidMetal material. LiquidMetal is a next-generation metal that consists of steel, chrome, manganese, carbon and silicone materials and because it is nickel free, it is hypoallergenic. LiquidMetal is also corrosion resistant, a real plus for prolonged exposure to the harsh elements of the sun, sand and saltwater.
Costa’s three-stage comfort system, a unique temple design achieved through advanced co-injected processes on the temple tip, combined with the sunglasses’ lightweight characteristics mean a comfortable fit for hours of wear. Optical quality hinges, which provide a flexible and form-fitting frame, add to the products’ durability and comfort. The sunglasses feature custom silicone nose pads and co-injected temple tips to prevent slippage, even on hot days when perspiration might cause other sunglasses to slide. The initial introduction of LiquidMetal features a large rectangular-shaped lens, named Lava, a medium soft oval shape, named Magma, and a small square shape, named Cinder, which fits all face shapes stylishly and comfortably.
The LiquidMetal styles are part of Costa Del Mar’s Island Collection, which also includes Havana, Finisterra and Grace. Lava, Magma and Cinder are each offered in Gunmetal frames with gray and blue mirror coated polycarbonate lenses and Copper frames with gray and amber polycarbonate lenses. All three styles come with 8-base decentered, optical quality lenses, utilizing Costa Del Mar’s WAVE 400™ lens technology. All Costa Del Mar sunglass lenses feature 100 percent polarization that reduces reflected glare and 100 percent UV protection that protects wearers from the harmful effects of the sun. The suggested retail price ranges from $209 to $229.
